How we do it
Confirm the fault
We read the system pressures and check whether the clutch receives power and engages. This separates a compressor fault from a gas or electrical fault.
Rule out the simple causes
Relay, fuse, pressure switch, belt condition and gas level are checked first, because each one can copy the symptoms of a failed compressor.
Inspect the compressor
We look at the clutch coil, the pulley bearing, the shaft seal and the condition of the oil, and check for metal debris that shows internal wear.
Repair or replace
A worn clutch, bearing or seal can sometimes be repaired. When the compressor has failed inside, we recommend replacement and explain why.
Clean the system and recharge
After an internal failure, debris travels through the pipes, so we flush what can be flushed and fit the parts that must be renewed. Then we vacuum, recharge and test.

Can I keep driving with a noisy AC compressor?
- Switch the AC off and get it checked soon. A seizing compressor can shred the drive belt, and on many cars that belt also drives the alternator or the power steering pump.
Do you repair the compressor or always replace it?
- It depends on the fault. A worn clutch, bearing or shaft seal can often be repaired. A compressor that has failed internally should be replaced, and we tell you which case you have.
What makes a compressor fail?
- Running with too little gas or oil, moisture inside the system, debris, a seized clutch bearing and plain age are the usual causes. Regular AC checks catch most of them early.
How do I know it is the compressor and not the gas?
- Low gas gives weak cooling and the compressor still runs. A compressor fault often brings noise, a clutch that will not engage or no cooling at all with normal pressure. A gauge reading tells us which.
