Car AC Gas Refill Cost in Peshawar: What Decides the Price

"How much is an AC gas refill?" is the first question most drivers ask, and it is a fair one. The honest answer is that it depends on your car and what the AC needs. We do not publish a single number, because a number that fits one car is wrong for the next. What we can do is explain what moves the price, so you can judge any quote you receive, ours included.

The refrigerant your car uses

Cars do not all use the same refrigerant. Many older cars use R134a. Many newer models use R1234yf, which is a different gas and generally costs more. The label under the bonnet or the service manual states which one your car takes. A quote that does not mention the type of gas is a quote worth questioning.

How much gas the system holds

Every car has a specified amount of refrigerant. A small hatchback holds less than a large SUV or a pickup with rear air conditioning. The amount is measured, not guessed, and a correct charge matters: too little cools poorly and too much raises the pressure and strains the compressor.

Whether there is a leak

If your AC needs gas, it almost certainly has a leak. Finding it takes time, and repairing it may involve new O-rings, a hose, a condenser or a compressor seal. A refill quote that includes no leak check is cheaper on the day and more expensive over the summer, because the gas escapes and you pay again.

So when you compare quotes, ask this: does the price include checking for leaks?

Vacuuming and moisture

A proper refill removes the old gas and vacuums the system to draw out air and moisture. Moisture is harmful because it can freeze at the expansion valve and it corrodes the metal inside. This step costs a workshop time and equipment, which is one reason a proper job takes longer than a quick top-up.

Oil, dye and small parts

Some jobs need fresh compressor oil, leak-detection dye, new seals or a new receiver-drier, which is a small filter and moisture trap in the system. When a compressor has failed, the drier is normally replaced too. These are extras that depend on what we find when we check the system.

The condition of the rest of the AC

Sometimes the gas is not the problem. A weak condenser fan, a clogged condenser, a failing compressor or a wiring fault can each copy the symptoms of low gas. How to compare quotes fairly

When you collect prices from different workshops, ask the same questions each time:

• Which refrigerant will you use, and how much will go in?
• Is a leak check included?
• Do you vacuum the system before charging?
• What happens if you find another fault? Will you tell me before doing extra work?
• Can I see the gauge readings before and after?

A workshop that answers these clearly is usually one that does the job properly. A price that is much lower than the rest often leaves something out.
